Abstract

[Also in Division F1 A rotary air motor has a first valve 21 which controls the passage of air through a supply pipe 11 and is urged to the open position by air bled through ducts 23, 24, 25, a second valve 32 which is urged to the open position and retained in the closed state by releasable means 37, and means, such as a centrifugal weight 40, for operating the releasable means 37 at a predetermined speed whereby the valve 32 will open to connect the ducts to exhaust 36 and allow the valve 21 to close. The means 37 consists of a pin 37 which is rotated when struck by the centrifugal weight to align it with the elongated position of a bayonet slot in the housing of the valve 32 to permit the latter to be opened by a spring 34. The weight is loaded by a spring 44 adjusted by a screwed plug 45. Flyweights 16 operate a normal governor speed control valve 14. The valve 21 may be opened manually by rotating a tap 27. In a modified construction, the valve 21 consists of a sleeve and a separate trigger-actuated valve preceded by an oil reservoir and filter is provided upstream. The air passing to exhaust when the valve 32 opens may blow a whistle.
