Abstract

1,109,466. Feeding and stacking sheets. DE LA RUE INSTRUMENTS Ltd. 10 Sept., 1965 [25 Sept., 1964], No. 39204/64. Headings B6B and B6H. Sheets are separated sequentially from a stack 2A, supported on edge on a horizontally adjustable plate 1, by a rotating friction roller 5, and fed between the front edge 13 of the plate 1 and a steel or other rotating roller 10 having a non-yielding surface, defining an adjustable throat T, and they are then forwarded by feed rollers 17, 18 at a higher speed past a counting device and stacked at 2C. The stack 2A is urged against the separator roller 5 by a member 3, biased by a spring 4. The front edge 13 of the plate 1 is chamfered, and the plate is adjustable horizontally towards the roller 10 by a screw and nut means 14-16. The roller 5 comprises two spaced discs having rubber &c. peripheral surfaces, and the steel &c. roller 10 has a spaced rubber &c. surfaced disc on each side thereof. The feed rollers 17, 18 have rubber peripheries, and are driven at a higher peripheral speed than the rollers 5, 10 to cause the sheets to be spaced for counting purposes. Stacking sheets.-The sheets, such as 2B, are fed by the rollers 17, 18 past a photo-electric counter comprising a lamp 21 and a photoelectric cell 22, an amplifier A, and a digital counter C, and are stacked on a platform 23 by a number of spaced rotating wheels 26 having rubber peripheries. The platform 23 comprises a base, an upwardly inclined guide portion 23A, and a spring-urged pusher member 24. The sheet feed drive may be arrested by means in the counter C or when the stack S is exhausted. The member 3 may be retracted manually or automatically.
