Abstract

1,108,916. Disc brake. GIRLING Ltd. 8 July, 1965 [21 July, 1964], No. 29843/64. Heading F2E. A disc brake of the kind in which a calliper straddles a disc and is mounted to swing about an axis substantially at right angles to the axis of the disc, a friction pad being applied to one face of the disc by actuating means located in one limb of calliper while the other pad is applied to the opposite face of the disc by reaction is characterized by the drag on the directly actuated pad when the brake is applied being taken directly by a stationary member. In one embodiment two arms are provided in the stationary member which have faces which abut the edges of the pad back plate. The faces are arranged parallel to a radius passing through the centre of pressure of the pad. Where two circumferentially spaced hydraulic cylinders are provided in the calliper a single stationary member may be located between the axes of the bores to take the drag or torque in both directions of rotation of the disc.
