[Also in Division B5] A panel for use in ship construction has spaced layers 1, 2 of prestressed concrete with an infill 3 of foamed plastics material between, the layers 1 and 2 being rigidly connected by connector bars 6 extending between them. The layers are each prestressed by first and second sets of wire extending in perpendicular directions within the layer. Prestressing tendons can also be positioned in ducts in the infill 3. Layer 1 constitutes the outer ship side and is thicker than layer 2. The panel can be about 15 inches thick.
