Abstract

983,409. Beam casings. TURNERS ASBESTOS CEMENT CO. Ltd. Dec. 6, 1963 [March 19, 1963], No. 10864/63. Heading E1V. I-sectioned steel members have a doubleskinned casing of incombustible material pre-moulded into portions of U- or L-section, the portions in one skin abutting one another edge-to-edge, and the joints in the two skins being staggered one from the other. As shown in Fig. 2, battens 2, of asbestos "wood" i.e. abestos fibres and cement, space the inner skin 3, 4 of asbestos insulation board from the I-section 1. Surrounding the portions 3 and 4 is a layer of aluminium foil 7, battens 10 and portions 8 and 9 of asbestos "wood". In the embodiment of Fig. 1 (not shown), the aluminium foil and the outer battens are omitted. A casing may also be formed from U-sectioned portions with all the portions having their bases running parallel to the flanges of the I-section, their being two inner, and two outer portions, with the flanges of the portions being of such a length that the joints in the inner and outer skins are staggered. If L- sectioned portions are used, the flanges are of unequal lengths, and four portions are used in each skin, with the joints again being staggered.
