Abstract
Hydrocarbons are reformed in the presence of a catalyst made by impregnating Al2O3 with an aqueous solution containing HBF4 and H2PtCl6 in specified proportions. Typical operating conditions are:-temp 400-550 DEG C ; press. 1-60 atmospheres, S.V. 0.5-8 and H2. rate 2-15 mols. per mol. of hydrocarbon. Examples describe the reformation of a charge consisting of 59.7% paraffins, 31.2% naphthenes and 9.1% aromatics. A R.O.N. of 96 was obtained after 600 hours. The catalysts are said to be useful for isomerization, hydrocracking, hydrogenation and dehydrogenation.ALSO:Reforming catalysts are made by treating Al2O3 with an aqueous solution of HBF4 and H2PtCl6 in molar preparations of 3.5 to 4.5:1 and drying and activating the product. Use of e - and g - Al2O3 is mentioned and activation takes the form of high temperature heat treatment. Catalysts may contain 0.5% Pt; 0.65% F; 0.41% Cl and 0.1% B.
