Abstract
1411946 Treating gasoline BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 25 Jan 1973 [1 Feb 1972] 4596/72 Headings C5E and C5G Gasolines boiling in the range 30-200‹ C., e.g. steam or catalytically cracked gasoline, are treated by reaction with formic acid. The treatment can be carried out by heating the gasoline at 0-200‹ C. with a molar excess of formic acid over the olefins present in the gasoline; a catalyst such as sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, perchloric acid or an aryl sulphonic acid can be present. Olefins in the gasoline are converted to formate esters which remain in the gasoline.
