Abstract
The invention relates to a method of producing furan by contacting liquid furfural with a palladium catalyst in the presence of calcium acetate in an amount greater than about 0.01 mole per mole of liquid furfural. Preferably the reaction is carried out by boiling at a temperature greater than 190 DEG and below 225 DEG C., the calcium acetate being in an amount between 0.01 and 0.1 mole per mole of furfural.
