Abstract

Myrcene sulphone hydrate is prepared by heating myrcene sulphone with water at temperatures in the range of from 20 DEG to 100 DEG C. in the presence of a solid activated acidic catalyst. The catalyst may be, for example, a sulphonated ion-exchange resin or an acidic activated clay. The product may be heated to give myrcene hydrate (2 - methyl - 6 - methylene - 7 - octene-2-ol) as described in Specification 910,302. Examples are given.
