Abstract

2,2,2-Trifluoroethanol is prepared by treating fluoral or a hydrate thereof with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst at elevated temperature, e.g. 50-150 DEG C., under pressure. Aqueous solutions of the fluoral may be used.
