Abstract
Reforming of an naphtha boiling the range 120-500 degrees F is carried out in the presence of H2 with a catalyst comprising a Gp. 8 noble metal (pref. Pt), mordenite having a SiO2 - to - Al2O3 ratio of >=19:1 (pref. about 27:1) and an absorbent refractory inorganic oxide, pref. gamma- or eta- Al2O3. The feedstock is pref. first contacted with a Pt-Al2O3-halide reforming catalyst. The reforming is pref. carried out at an inlet temp. of 850-1000 degrees F, a press. of 0-1000 psig, a WHSV of >=1 and a recycle gas rate of 3000-10000 SCF/bbl. The process gives a reformate of improved octane no.
