Abstract

H2 is sepd. from the effluent from a reactor for hydro-treating hydrocarbons, by passing the effluent through diffusion barriers, to give a gas contg. mainly H2, for recycling. The necessity for pre-heating the recycle H2 before feeding it, with fresh hydrocarbon, to the reactor, is avoided. The effluent gas originates from catalytic reforming, hydrocracking, hydrodesulphurisation, isomerisation, disproportionation, transalkylation, hydro-dealkylation of aromatic hydrocarbons, or (de)hydrogenation.
