Abstract

110,717. Sundberg, K. June 4, 1917. Surface-tension separating processes and apparatus.-In a flotation process, air or other gas is forced into the pulp in such a manner that the mass is set into rapid horizontal rotation, the suction effect produced being utilized also to assist the passage of the pulp from one vessel to the next of a series. The ore and liquid agents are fed into the first of a series of mixing vessels 1 to which air or other gas is admitted through jets 14 so arranged as to impart rotation to the materials. Air or gas may also be admitted from a pipe 16. The mixture passes through an opening 7 to a vessel 2 from which the froth overflows while the tailings are drawn through a pipe 8 into the next vessel 1 to which fresh reagents may be admitted and wherein a further mixing and separation are effected by a further supply of air or gas, the froth being removed as before, and so on through the series.
