Abstract
145,870. Minerals Separation, Ltd., (Emerson, E. H.). April 1, 1919. Surface-tension separating processes and apparatus.-In the concentration of ores by froth-flotation, a stream of mixed air and liquid from a hydro-air injector is projected into a stream of ore pulp, and the combined streams are projected violently into a body of pulp in the presence of a mineral-frothing agent to form a froth. In the apparatus shown, which comprises a number of similar units mounted in series, pulp from a feed box 4 passes through a pipe 10 into a box 20 supported above the first of a series of agitation vessels 8 and having a pipe 23 depending therefrom above a baffle 24 mounted in the vessel 8. Water is supplied from a main 14 to each of the vessels 8 through an injector comprising a nozzle 11, and a tube 19 with a flaring upper end mounted in a cup 17 having air-holes 18. The pulp flows through the entire series of vessels 8, while the concentrates overflow and run down a trough 5. In a modification, the boxes 20 are arranged to close the tops of the vessels 8, and the latter discharge into intermediate vessels from which the concentrates overflow. Specifications 7803/05, 13268/07, 14806/07, 2359/09, 21857/10 and 22346/13 are referred to.
