Abstract

4911. Hoover, T. J. Feb. 27. Surface-tension and like separating-apparatus.- Relates to apparatus for carrying out concentrating processes such as described in Specification 7803/05, in which air is beaten into a liquid containing powdered ore in suspension and the separation is effected by the selective action of the air bubbles, whether the liquid contains oil or not, and comprises an agitation vessel, a spitzkasten or the like placed immediately at the outlet of the agitation vessel, and a baffle at the inlet of the spitzkasten to direct the stream towards the surface of the liquid. The crushed mineral and water are fed into the first of a series of agitation vessels A, each provided with a stirrer B. A small proportion of acid and of other substances which assist the flotation of metallic sulphides may be added from vessels D, E. The outlet A<3> opens directly into one or more spitzkasten F containing an inclined baffie K, which may be adjustable. The floating froth passes away through a launder G, and the liquid and sunken material pass out at H.
