Abstract
1,106,874. Centrifugal casting. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. 6 June, 1966 [5 June, 1965], No. 25189/66. Heading B3F. In a process for the production by centrifugal casting of a homogeneous alloy body, the constituents from which the body is to be formed are placed in an upright tubular member or mould 3 closed at the bottom. The constituents are then melted on the mould whilst axially rotating the mould during solidification of the melt. Prior to melting the mould is purged by an inert gas, e.g., argon, admitted through a pipe 7 in the top of the mould. The materials are melted by a high frequency induction coil 8 which surrounds the mould. In an alternative embodiment, the induction heating coil is funnel shaped and the mould or tube is passed downwardly through the coil so that the charge is melted in a strong high frequency field and cools in a progressively weakening field at the lower conical portion. With this latter arrangement, charges of greater length than the coil can be melted.
