Abstract
1,270,982. Centrifugal casting machines. CENTRE DE RECHERCHES DE PONT-AMOUSSON. 29 Aug., 1969 [4 Sept., 1968], No. 43181/69. Heading B3F. A centrifugal pipe casting machine comprises a rotatable mould A on a carriage F reciprocable by a fluid motor C along a tubular pouring spout 3 which distributes molten metal from the top end of the mould to its bottom end. Melt from a vessel 1 is fed to the spout 3 which is inclined at 3 to 10 degrees. The spout comprises a central metal tube surrounded by a cylindrical packing of refractory material, e.g. slag wool, encased in metal hemicylindrical shells. In an alternative embodiment, a horizontal tubular spout 3 is used having a sealed end (16) and an orifice 17 (see Fig. 6) at its upper part. The above pouring spout arrangements enable the pouring spout to be kept full of molten metal between casting operations. In a further embodiment, melt is forced through a tubular pouring spout by gas pressure in a hermetically sealed ladle.
