Abstract
1368189 Pouring molten steel CONCAST AG 25 Sept 1972 [27 Sept 1971] 44281/72 Heading F4B In the pouring of molten steel from a metallurgical vessel, e.g. a tundish 1 incorporating a pouring pipe 8 pressed against a nozzle 6 by a holding device 9, the nozzle 6 is sealed by a metal disc 15 and an aluminium oxygen lance 22 with U-shaped connection 21 is inserted within the pouring pipe so that when the tundish is filled with molten steel and the oxygen is turned on the disc 15 is perforated and the issuing steel melts the aluminium lance and U-connection. A ring 16 on the nozzle 6 protects the disc 15 from flotation when the tundish is filled. In a modification (Fig. 2) applied to a siding gate nozzle, the oxygen lance is inserted through a sleeve (33) disposed between the lower slide plate (27) and the pouring pipe (8<SP>1</SP>).
