Abstract

1,106,562. Electrophotographic materials. RANK XEROX Ltd. 2 March, 1965 [3 March, 1964], No. 8864/65. Heading H1K. Electrophotographic materials are made to have characteristics largely independent on their charging polarity by contacting each face of the photoconductive insulating layer with a dye or dye-containing material. The dyes mentioned are electron donors. In one example an aluminium support is coated with nitrocellulose containing nigrosin base, selenium is evaporated on to form an amorphous layer, and a further layer of the doped nitrocellulose is applied. In a second example an aluminium support is coated with a layer of a methacrylate lacquer containing methylene blue, a selenium-tellurium alloy is evaporated on, and a layer of nitrocellulose-cellulose acetate lacquer containing nigrosin base is applied. In a third example an aluminium support is provided with a porous oxide layer into which congo red is soaked. Selenium-tellurium alloy is then applied and nigrosin adsorbed on this from an organic solution. Indigo blue is the remaining dye mentioned in a general list.
