Abstract

A cutting-out press having movable and fixed beds B, C respectively comprises for each bed, a slide 50, or 51, movable to and fro, parallel to the direction of feed of the work, along guide bars 22 or 23, carried by the bed, each bed supporting a plate and die assembly 14, 15 or 80, co-operating with the guide bars, each plate and die assembly being releasably secured to its bed by fluid-operated piston-andcylinder units 70, 72 or 90, and when such securing means are released, each slide is driven by fluid-operated piston and cylinder units 34, 44 or 35, abutments 62, 64 or 63, 65 being provided whereby movement of the slide produces movement of the plate and die assembly along the guide bars to a position where it is displaced relative to its bed thereby to facilitate manual removal of the plate and die assembly from the press. Each bed plate 14, or 80 is grooved at its longitudinal edges to house balls 18 or 19, held by the guide bars 22 or 23. The abutments 62 or 63 are engaged by spring-biased hooks 58 or 59, carried by the slides 50 or 51. The slides carry rollers 66 or 67, engageable, before the end of the stroke of the pistons in the cylinders 34, 35, with inclined planes 68 or 69, secured to extensions of the guide bars so as to release the hooks 58 or 59. The guide bars 22 are carried by beams 24 which can be raised or lowered in guides 26 by means of hydraulic jacks 28, 30. The last part of the return stroke of the plate and die assemblies towards the press is damped by means of flow-reducing members 52, 53 provided in heads 36, 37 respectively. The piston-and-cylinder units 34, 35 may, alternatively, be constituted by telescopic elements and the jacks 28, 30 may be of a mechanical type.
