Abstract

1,106,253. Limit switches on winding apparatus. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 10 Aug., 1966 [18 May, 1965], No. 20926/65. Heading B8B. A limit switch mechanism for a cable drum 10, responsive to the amount of cable left on the drum comprises a member 12 actuable by the cable on the drum and arranged to operate a fluid valve 21 and then an electrical switch 17 if operation of the valve 21 does not cause the drum to stop. A roller 13 engaging the cable on the drum is mounted at one end of the member 12 and causes the latter to pivot at 20 to vary the engagement between the valve 21 and a cam 12a adjustably secured to the other end of the member 12. Depression of a spring- loaded plunger of the fluid valve 21 breaks the fluid circuit for a fluid motor driving the drum 10. A plunger 14 pivoted in slotted connection with the member 12 operates the electrical switch 17 via an adjustable sleeve 15. The switch 17 breaks an electrical circuit controlling either a valve in the fluid motor supply line or a switch for the fluid supply pump. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 (not shown), a shoulder on the plunger pivoted to the member actuates both the fluid valve and subsequently the electrical switch.
