Abstract

1,104,933. Magnetic fastenings. A. G. M. CLARK. 5, Feb., 1965 [13, Feb., 1964], No. 6155/64. Heading E2A. Fastening means comprises a first permanent magnet 10 adapted to be fixedly attached to one component such as a door jamb 13, and a second permanent magnet 14 adapted to be movably attached to another component such as a door 15, the arrangement being such that when the components are contiguous, the unlike poles of the magnets are in contact to attract one another and retain the components together, but movement of the second magnet to separate the unlike poles and align the like poles separates the components. As shown, the magnet 14 is mounted at one side of the door 15 by a stem 16 in a sleeve 18 for rotation by a knob 17 at the other side of the door. In another embodiment, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the movable magnet is mounted at the edge of the door for rotation by a push button.
