Abstract

943,421. Magnetic fastenings. MONARCH TOOL & MACHINERY CO. Oct. 6, 1960 [Oct. 7, 1959], No. 34334/60. Heading E2A. [Also in Division A4] In a separable two-part magnet connector for detachably connecting two items together, one part 12 of the connector presents a pole of a permanent magnet 34 of the ceramic type into a recess in a magnetic armature 42 of the other part 14 of the connector. As shown the connector is intended for connecting together two key chains 16, 20. The part 12 consists of an outer shell 30 made of a plastics material which includes a shallow cup portion in which is cemented a pole cup 32. The magnet is cemented into the cup 32 and to its upper face is cemented a pole piece 36. The part 14 consists of an outer shell 70 identical with the shell 30 and in the cupshaped recess is cemented the armature which is also cup-shaped. The dimensions of the armature and the pole cup 32 are such that their edges contact each other when the two parts are fastened together by the attraction of the magnet, a small airgap then existing between the pole piece 36 and the bottom of the armature recess.
