The base of a thermal storage heater comprises a cover 1, a fan 10, a baffle 12 for directing part of the air discharged by the fan through an aperture 2 in the cover to ducts in the storage block (not shown) while permitting the remainder of the air to flow into a cold-air duct formed along one side of the base beneath a wall 14, and a triangular-section chamber defined by cover 1, wall 14 and a further wall 15 which includes a grill 16. The chamber receives hot air from the block through an aperture 3 in the cover and supplies the air through grill 16 to a distribution chamber which also receives air from the cold-air duct and discharges the mixed air through an outlet grill 17 to the space to be heated. Baffles 19 are provided in the distribution chamber and project into the cold-air duct. A small stream of cold air 22 may be permitted to enter the triangular-section chamber at the opposite end to the hot air inlet to improve the pressure distribution along the chamber.
