Abstract

1,102,702. Extruding. VICKERS Ltd. 30 Sept., 1966 [15 Oct., 1965], No. 43880/65. Heading B3P. A high-pressure vessel, particularly for use in hydrostatic extrusion, comprises concentric cylinders 1, 2 defining therebetween an annular stepped gap 3 sealed at its ends and filled with non-gaseous fluid, whereby a build-up in pressure in the bore 8 of the inner cylinder is accompanied by an increase in pressure in the gap. The inner cylinder is slidable within the stepped bore of the outer cylinder and any increase in hydraulic pressure produced by the ram 5 in the bore 8, tends to lower the inner cylinder 1 thus increasing the fluid pressure in the gap 3. The end closure 4 may be an extrusion die. More than two concentric cylinders may be used and their interface gap supplied by one or more external pressure sources. The cylinders 1, 2 may be of compound construction.
