Abstract

1,109,932. Extruding. VICKERS Ltd. 20 Oct., 1966 [25 Oct., 1965], No. 45154/65. Heading B3P. A high-pressure vessel, particularly for use in hydrostatic extrusion, comprises a group of separate axially bored cylinders 1 detachably clamped together end to end with sealing means 8 between adjacent bore ends. The cylinders have tapered shoulders 5 which are clamped together by two or three part-hinged rings (4a), (4b), Fig. 2 (not shown). In a hydrostatic extrusion process, a billet 15 in chamber 27 is extruded by fluid pressurized by a ram 17, through a die 18 mounted in a die holder 19 clamped by ring 24 between two cylinders 16 Seals 21, 21 are provided and spacer sleeves 9 are arranged between the seals. The extruded product passes into a back-pressure chamber 25 in which a fluid is pressurized, by ram 26. Alternatively or additionally the cylinders may be clamped by end abutments 23. In another embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown) the back pressure chamber is omitted and the cylinders 1 are of multiple layer construction. The vessels may also be used for hydrostatic compacting.
