Abstract

1,102,517. Forage harvesters. J. A. FREUDENDAHL. 29 July, 1966 [3 Aug., 1965], No. 34188/66. Heading A1F. A forage harvester having a rotatable drum 1 carrying a number of knives or flails pivotable about shafts parallel with the drum axis is characterized in that each shaft 3 is substantially rectangular and each flail 5 comprises a substantially triangular eye through which the shaft passes. Upon contacting an obstruction the flail will pivot rearwardly to the position indicated, the eye and the shaft coacting to resist such rearward pivoting. In a further embodiment the shaft is arranged with its wide surfaces substantially radially disposed in relation to the drum 1.
