Abstract

1,102,446. Belt gearing. QUALCAST Ltd. 17 Feb., 1965 [20 April, 1964], No. 16324/64. Heading F2Q. One run of a transmission belt for a lawn mower between pulleys 15, 16 is resiliently engaged by a jockey pulley 12 on a swing arm 22 biased by a bowed spring 11, which bears against an adjustable leaf spring 23 and is attached at its centre 31 to a Bowden cable 10 used to straighten the spring 11, which action increases the belt tension due to the jockey pulley to transmit drive between pulleys 15, 16. On release of the Bowden cable 10 the belt tension decreases and the belt slips without transmission of drive. The spring 11 may be replaced by two arms pivoted together at the Bowden cable attachment point 31 and sprung outwards at a large angle.
