Abstract

1,146,150. Belt gearing. DET STORE NORDISKE TELEGRAF-SELSKAB (A.S.). 13 Jan., 1967 [26 Jan., 1966], No. 1845/67. Heading F2Q. In a disengageable belt drive, e.g. for a tapefeed mechanism, comprising a belt 12 passing round a driving pulley 11 and round a driven pulley 13 connected by a slip coupling to an output shaft 14 to which is secured a spider 15 having one or more arms 16 extending axially close to the belt-engaging surface of pulley 13, the greatest peripheral distance between two successive edges of arm(s) 16 is larger than or equal to the circumferential length of the portion of pulley 13 engaged by the belt, so that when an arm 17 of spider 15 is engaged by a pivoted stop 18 to prevent rotation of shaft 14, the arms 16 are clear of the belt, and when the stop 18 is removed, the torque in the slip coupling rotates the spider until the, or the leading arm 16 is gripped between the belt and pulley 13 to transmit a much higher torque to the output shaft than that of the slip coupling. The stop 18 may be returned to stop-shaft 14 after one revolution, or, if it is held clear, momentum and the slip coupling torque rotate the shaft 14 through the zone in which the arm(s) 16 are free of the belt. Other configurations of arms 16 allow stopping of shaft 14 at more than one point per revolution. The slip coupling is formed by spring urging pulley 13 axially into frictional engagement with the spider 15.
