Abstract

110,106. Murphy, J. April 12, 1917. Billet piercing.-In piercing a projectile while in a matrix F, the mandrel G is guided by a split ring A tapered externally to fit the turned mouth D of the matrix. The guide has flats or grooves on the outside to allow escape of air and is held together by springs B' located in grooves B which allow the hot and enlarged mandrel to be withdrawn through the guide.
