A fluidizing unit for a pneumatic silo comprises an annular plenum chamber 26, Fig. 1, surrounding the material outlet pipe 46 and containing a filter media 38 supported against a perforated base portion 16 of the hopper by a loose perforated ring 28 having pipe spacers 30 welded to the underside. The filter media 38 may be air permeable rubber or steel wool. Air is supplied from a coupling 44 and arcuate channel 42 through apertures 40 (not shown), in a bolted plate 32. A pivoted plate valve 52 is provided to control the flow of material.
