Abstract

1,099,330. Soldering. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 31, 1966, No. 19431/66. Heading B3R. Soldering apparatus comprises a pair of parallel, elongate, parallel-sided nozzles 4,5 connected to a common inlet duct 1 and pump submerged in a molten solder bath (not shown), and is intended particularly for soldering the connections on printed circuit boards when the latter are traversed over the nozzles. The first nozzle 4, the mouth of which has outwardly and downwardly directed flanges 6, 7, is arranged to provide a symmetrical flow or wave of molten solder to coat the connections on the board; the second nozzle 5 is so shaped and disposed as to provide a flow of solder of slightly less height directed towards the first nozzle 4, i.e. against the direction of traverse of the board, in. order to remove surplus solder from the connections. The nozzles and ducts may be fabricated in stainless steel.
