Abstract

1,098,864. Lock nuts. STANDARD PRESSED STEEL CO. April 27, 1965 [April 28, 1964], No. 17714/65. Heading F2H. A lock-nut having torque-limiting features comprises a driving portion 10 connected to a threaded body portion 11 by a neck 12 which shears at a predetermined torque, local distortions 45a-45c being formed in the threads of portion 11 to lock the nut on a bolt. These distortions are at least 1¢ thread pitches distant from the neck 12 and may be formed by pressing small balls or tools with a spherical bearing surface at spaced intervals around the body portion.
