Abstract

1,097,478. Wrapping-machines. C. R. STEVENS. Dec. 14, 1966 [Dec. 22, 1965], No. 54414/65. Heading B8C. Paper 21 is folded around a folio 22 by ploughs 29, 30 pivoting inwards, the folds being consolidated by a subsequent upward movement of conveyers 26, 27 to press the folio against the underside of the ploughs. The paper is initially fed from a reel 10, Fig. 1, until its leading edge 15 actuates a photo-cell in a channel 16, whereon a flap 19 closes to grasp the edge of the paper and cutter 20 traverses and severs the paper. After a folio has been laid on the paper conveyer 13 is actuated to carry the paper between fixed ploughs (24), (25), Fig. 3 (not shown), prior to transference to conveyers 26, 27, running between the movable ploughs 29, 30. After the conveyers 26, 27 have stopped and the folds are made as previously mentioned, slide plates 32, (33) move transversely of the conveyers to effect an overlap joint along the upper face of the folio, which is subsequently sealed. The slider plates and ploughs are then withdrawn and the partially wrapped folio is discharged for completion of the folding process. The ploughs and conveyers are adjustable to accommodate varying sizes of the folio.
