A container 1 for specimens of body fluids, e.g. blood, has a removable closure 2 with a needle-receiving nipple 7, an air vent 8 and a closure 15 for the nipple and vent. The needle has a sheath 13. Body fluid enters the container under its own pressure. The container may contain anticoagulant and be packed in a sterile pack.
