[Also in Division B1] A container 14, e.g. of glass or plastic, is liquid filled by a syringe 40 by placing its tip 42 into a tip 36 of an enclosure 32 forced into the circular flange 20 of a filter holder 18 having a bored extension 22 forced into the container neck and provided with a vent 25. The filter 28 is held by the enclosure and when the syringe is operated liquid flows into the enclosure through the filter into the container, the filter holder and enclosure are then removed from the container and replaced by a screwthreaded cap 46 which frictionally houses a cylindrical stopper 50 with a flow passage 54 and tip 52. Application of the cap causes the stopper to be forced into the container neck. Prior to the filling operation the container, filter holder, enclosure, cap and stopper are housed in an impervious package and sterilized, and are kept in the package until required for the filling operation.
