Abstract

L-Glutamic acid is produced by culturing a microorganism capable of producing L-glutamic acid from a nitrogen source and from sucrose as carbon source, on a medium containing, as carbon source, molasses, raw juice, beet sugar, sugar cane or a hydrolysate of maize or rice, and also containing sucrose mono-palmitate, glycerol mono-palmitate or sorbitan monopalmitate in an amount which is effective in promoting the formation of L-glutamic acid but smaller than the amount which will inactivate the glutamic acid producing enzyme of the micro-organism. Organisms specified are strains of Brevibacterium lactofermentum and B. flavum. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 973,376.
