1, 096, 405. Reversing; oscillating-vane actuators. BRJANSKY MASHINOSTROITELNY ZAVOD. July 13, 1965, No.29615/65. Headings F1F and F1K. The direction of rotation of a two-stroke I. C. engine with uniflow scavenging is reversible by angularly advancing the cam-shaft relative to the crank-shaft through the required angle. An intermediate shaft 3, Fig. 1, having split couplings 14 by which it is secured to the engine cam-shaft, has webs 12 provided with slots 11 receiving bearing blocks 10 for journals 9 of crank-shafts 6. The crank-shafts 6 are supported in bearings 7 in a housing 8 and have gears 5 engaging a gear on a split sleeve 1. The latter carries two radial vanes 19, Fig. 2, and is freely rotatable within the housing 8 which is connected to the engine crank-shaft through gear 13 or a sprocket. Pressure liquid delivered to and exhausted from the opposite sides of each vane via bores 15, 16, causes the sleeve 1 to rotate and thereby rotate the crank-shafts 6 and angularly advance the intermediate shaft 3 and attached engine cam-shaft. The crank-shafts 6 move from one extreme position to another through an angle in excess of 180 degrees and thereby lock the cam-shaft in position. A sprocket 20 attached to the casing 8 carries a toothed segment 21 engaging a pinion 22 of a screw shaft 23 which, during engine reversal, imparts forward motion to a clutch element 24 to control the engine air distributer shaft. In an alternative embodiment, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the vanes are connected directly to the intermediate shaft, the crank-shafts are driven by a gear on the intermediate shaft engaging a gear at one end of each of the crank-shafts, and the cranks of the crankshafts are set in slots in a gear of the engine camshaft drive.
