Abstract
1,095,750. Melt-spinning polyoxymethylene. MONTECATINI EDISON S.p.A. Dec. 2, 1966 [Dec. 6, 1965], No. 54023/66. Heading B5B. In a process for melt-spinning crystalline polyoxymethylene polymers or copolymers, after leaving the spinnerets the yarn is quenched at a cooling rate of 50-350‹ C. in 0À01 sec. The cooling may be performed by directing towards the yarn cold air, or another gas, saturated vapour, or an atomized liquid, or by passing the yarn through a bath of cold liquid, over cooled rolls, or through a column cooled by circulation of a coolant mixture. The cooling may be from - 80‹ to +30‹ C. Monofilaments, multifilaments, staple or continuous thread may be subjected to the treatment. The yarn may be subjected to annealing, thermal stabilization, and drawing. Polymers and copolymers specified are polyoxymethylene diacetates and dietherates, trioxan-hexahydrobenzotrioxyepan, trioxan-dioxolan and copolymers with 1,3-dioxan, tetrahydrofuran, ethylene glycol formal, propiolactone and butyrolactone.
