Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the filament cohesion, broken filaments, and denier unevenness, and to improve the degree of modification, by specifying the surface temperature of the shielding plate over the spinneret and the blowing conditions of quenching air.
CONSTITUTION: The filament yarn 3 extruded through the spinneret 2 near the shielding plate 4 is quenched uniformly and rapidly by air blown from the cylindrical blower 5 inward and upward. The surface temperature of the plate 4 is at least 20°C, preferably 40°C or more, lower than the melting point of the polymer constituting the yarn to quench the yarn thoroughly. The air is blown from the periphery on the yarn 3 within a distance 20cm or less, preferably 10cm or less, from the spinneret, and inward at an angle of 5W85 degrees from the horizon upward.
