Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain superfine multifilaments stably without requiring a specific process, by specifying a spinneret, polymer temperature, quenching method and spinning speed.
CONSTITUTION: A thermoplastic polymer is melt spun by means of a cylindrical quenching unit under the conditions of formulas (1)W(6) [Do is the inside diameter (mm) of the air blowing surface of the unit; D1 is the diameter (mm) of the inner most circle of the spinning holes; Tm is the melting point (°C) of the polymer; T is the temperature (°C) of the extruded polymer; H is the distance (mm) between the spinneret surface and the blowing position; Q is the outflow (f/min) of the polymer per hole] to give superfine multifilaments of fineness per filament 0.1W0.5 denier and the number of filaments ≥100. The method permits the reduction in cooling unevenness and increase in molecular mobility of molten polymer directly after extrusion.
