Abstract

1,095,140. Drafting - apparatus. G. FUSAROLI. Aug. 19, 1965, No. 35715/65. Heading D1D. In drafting-apparatus so that the pressure on the rollers may be relieved without separating the upper and lower rollers and so without releasing the material from the nips, means are provided whereby the loading-arm can be released between a working-position and an inoperative position parallel to the working- position; means are also provided whereby the arm can be lifted clear of the lower rollers after the arm has been moved to the said inoperative position. The loading-arm is of U-section, and carries pivots for spring-loaded support arms 12 for each of the upper rollers. The arm also carries a pivot-pin 4 working in slots 5 in two parallel support plates 6 carried by a fixed shaft 7. A toggle-lever 22 is pivoted at 27 to the arm and at 23 to two parallel bars 19 each shaped at one end to provide, a flat 21 and a tapered portion. The bars are slidable between the pin 4 and a pin 17 carried by the plates 6, the pin 17 resting on the flaps 21 when the arm is in the working-position shown, with the rollers under load. Fast with the pivot 23 is a hook 24 engaging a detent 25. When the lever 22 is raised to the vertical, the pivot 27 moves over an arc into recesses in the bars, simultaneously releasing the hook from the detent and moving the pivot 23 to the left, taking the bars with it. The bars slide between the pins 14, 17, the flats moving away from pin 17 which is now engaged by the tapered ends. The springs are now able to push the arm upwards, the pivot 4 rising in the slots 5. The hook 24 is released from the detent when the lever 27 is raised, so that the arm is free to be rotated about pivot 4 until a spring-catch 30 engages below a pin 31. To aline the upper and lower rollers, the support plates 6 are each in two parts 6', 6", Fig. 8, not shown, the lower part being splined to shaft 7 and the upper part being rotatable about the shaft when bolts 38 are loosened, each of the bolts passing through bores in cylindrical pins rotatably mounted one in each part. The detent 25 may be adjustable so that the draft may be changed while the rollers are under load. The arrangement at the right-hand ends of the bars may be modified (Fig. 7, not shown) by pivoting them to one arm of a bell-crank which when the bars move to the left, rocks about a pivot in horizontal slots in the plates 6, the other arm of the bell-crank carrying a pivot for the arm working in a vertical slot in the plates.
