Abstract

1,095,046. Valves; locking screws. SEETRU Ltd. Aug. 6, 1965 [Aug. 14, 1964], No. 33315/64. Headings F2H and F2V. In a relief valve of the type comprising a closure member 21 having an umbrella - like configuration which presents a larger area to the highpressure fluid once it has been unseated to thereby provide rapid opening, an auxiliary chamber 45 is provided into which the escaping fluid may leave via the clearance space between the closure member and cylinder 42 to build up a pressure which assists the load of spring 22 in closing the valve once the pressure has been relieved to a predetermined degree. Restricted passages 50 may be provided to vent chamber 45 once the valve has closed; alternatively, venting may occur via the clearance between a threaded spring seat 23 and cover 26. Needle valves (Fig. 3, not shown) may provide for varying the restriction of passages 50. The umbrella-like shape of the closure member gives rise to a dynamic force on the latter once it has been unseated, thereby assisting rapid opening. The spring seat 23 has a saw-cut 24 and is provided with a screw 25 which spreads the threads to lock the seat in its adjusted position. In Fig. 2, not shown, the high-pressure fluid and chamber (45) discharge into an outlet pipe (60).
