Abstract

1,094,735. Thermal switches. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 21, 1966 [Jan. 18, 1966], No. 2312/66. Heading H2B. A thermal switch comprises two co-operating contact carrying bi-metals 2, 3 designed to conduct current and a calibration or adjustment screw plug 5 with a tapered part 5a of the plug received between inwardly kinked parts 2c and 3c of the bi-metallic strips for varying the switch setting. Strips 2 and 3 have their low coefficient of expansion material facing inwardly toward one another. The switch is intended to be arranged alongside a pump of a motor vehicle windscreen washer to respond to the temperature of water in the pump and to the surrounding air temperature, the contacts being set by the plug to open when the water falls to just above freezing point to prevent energization of the pump.
