Abstract

1504551 Windscreen washers VDO ADOLF SCHINDLING AG 15 July 1975 [18 July 1974] 29619/75 Heading A4F [Also in Division B2] A spray nozzle assembly for a windscreen washer comprises a nozzle member 1 which is suitably made of aluminium, a hood 4 of a thermally insulating plastics material and an electrical heating device 8 located within a chamber 7 defined by the nozzle member 1, the hood 4 and a sealing element 6, said heating device including a thermistor having an inverse temperature coefficient, i.e. having a resistance which increases with increasing temperature. At temperatures around or below zero, the thermistor possesses a very low resistance and a high current passes so that the nozzle is heated and kept ice-free; at higher temperatures only a low power loss occurs in the thermistor so that loading of the battery is kept to a minimum.
