Abstract

A high temperature alloy e.g. Ni-Cr is protected by depositing a layer of Ag, heating to diffuse it, depositing a layer of Ni, then Al and finally heating to diffuse the Al layer. The Ag may be formed by electro-plating or decomposing the oxide in an aqueous suspension. The Ni is electro-deposited and the Al is deposited by heating a slip of Al or Al-Ni and aluminium oxide. Alternatively the Al may be applied using a pack of alumina, Al and ammonium chloride or bromide.
