Abstract
1311000 Coated molybdenum screen AMERICAN METAL CLIMAX Inc 13 Oct 1970 [14 Oct 1969] 9534/71 Divided out of 1310999 Heading B2E A coated molybdenum screen for use in pouring cast iron is produced by forming a mixture of alumina and silica and a sodium hydroxide solution, applying the mixture to the molybdenum screen whereby the sodium hydroxide will etch the molybdenum drying the liquid from the coated screen and heating the coated screen to fuse the remaining coating material. As shown in Fig. 1, a coated screen 25 comprises a molybdenum screen formed with openings 26 defined by strands 27 of molybdenum having a coating deposited upon the strands 27 and completely enclosing the strands while retaining the openings 26. Preferably the coating is ceramic and comprises 80% alumina and 20% silica applied from a mixture containing 58% alumina-silica and 42% sodium hydroxide solution. The coating may be subsequently fused.
