Abstract

1328458 Pack-diffusion coating of Nickelbase alloys CHROMALLOY AMERICAN CORP 13 May 1971 [3 June 1970] 14717/71 Heading C7F A Ni-base alloy is coated with Cr by embedding in a pack containing Cr, an inert diluent, a halide energizer, and a getter, eg Al whose negative free energy of formation of the oxide 25‹C is at least 115, 000 calories per gram atom of oxygen. The Ni-base alloy may contain up to 30% of Cr, Mo and W, up to 10% of Nb and Ta, up to 1% C, up to 10% of Ti or Al, up to 2% Si, up to 0À1% B, up to 2% Mn, and up to 1% Zr. The pack may also include 3 to 5% Ni. The coated Ni-base alloy may be given a second pack diffusion coating using Al and a buffering metal eg Cr. The halide energizer may be ammonium iodide, bromide or bifluoride. The pack may be first heated to eg 1850‹ F before the alloy is embedded.
