Abstract
Tetrafluoroethylene is produced by a process wherein difluorochloromethane is pyrolysed, tetrafluoroethylene and lower boiling materials are separated from the reaction product, the by-products formed which have a higher boiling point than tetrafluoroethylene are mixed with fresh difluorochloromethane, the mixture is subjected to pyrolysis at 700-1100 DEG C. for 0.01-0.5 seconds, and tetrafluoroethylene is isolated from the reaction mixture. By-products specified which are converted to tetrafluoroethylene by the process of the invention are CCl2F2, C3F6, cyclo-C4F8, iso-C4F8, C2HClF4, C3HClF6, CHF3 and CCl3F.
