In a choke for use in a discharge tube circuit, or a leaky autotransformer, comprising a coil 2 wound on an inner laminated core part 1 and surrounded by an outer laminated core part 3, linearity of the voltage-current characteristic is secured by closing the air gaps between the inner and outer core parts 1, 3 at the ends of the coil 2 with members 4 containing a limited quantity of ferromagnetic particles in an electrically insulating binder. Soft steel particles having a size of 1-10 cu. mm. and occupying 35-55% of the total volume of the members 4 may be used.
